Contemporary Living in the Mountains

The chalets in the exclusive ski resorts like Gstaad, Courchevel, Verbier, Megeve, have experienced a literal metamorphosis in recent years. On the outside they often seem as though they have remained unchanged for centuries - that is also the charm of these traditional farmer's homes, which are perfectly integrated in the mountain landscape. But once indoors the rustic charm has made way for a resolutely contemporary interior design, austere and restrained or timeless and modern. Photographer Jo Pauwels spent the last winter at the sophisticated ski resorts in search of a few contemporary pearls of interior architecture: inspiring examples for anyone wanting to design a mountain chalet in a contemporary vein.
