Anton Corbijn s new feature film is a suspense thriller titled The American, starring George Clooney. Its world-wide release is scheduled for fall 2010. Based on Martin Booth s 1992 novel A Very Private Gentleman, the movie is set in Sweden and in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The protagonist is a gunsmith and sometime hitman who tries to change his life, only to find out the hard way that you can t undo the past. Not one to give up on his old life, director-cumphotographer Anton Corbijn daily took his stillcamera to the set, and this book is the proof of that. Filled with candid on- and off set photographs accompanied by Corbijn s diary style writing, it provides a unique insight into the making of The American.
